Purpose:
The Kingsport
Senior Center Photo Group is a dedicated band of amateur photographers
who enjoy and share friendship, photographic skills and knowledge.
Our purpose in this endeavor is to promote interest in photographic
excellence among non-professional photographers in the South Central
Appalachian Region by providing a juried photographic competition
and exhibition in which to participate.
Conditions
of Entry:
The South Central
Appalachian Region is defined and limited to residents within 125
miles of Kingsport, TN.
Persons who
derive more than 25% of their income from photography are considered
professionals and are not eligible for this competition.
Entrants may
compete in one of two Divisions: Amateur or Proficient Amateur.
Entrants who have won major awards in a previous APS, or in other
regional competitions, or who are regularly accepted for exhibit
in juried shows are considered Proficient Amateurs. All others are
Amateurs. A major award is Best of Show, 1st, 2nd or 3rd Place but
not Honorable Mention.
Entries may
be submitted in two categories: Monochrome Prints and Color Prints.
Monochrome prints are black and white and single or split-tone.
A color print is one made by any color process. Alternative techniques,
such as toning, mixed media and digital manipulation are permitted.
Hand-painted photographs are not allowed.
All entries
must have been exposed by the entrant and originated as a photographic
process via either camera (film or digital) or other photo-sensitized
media. Prints may be either commercially processed or self- processed.
A non-refundable
entry fee of $5.00 per print will be charged for each print entered.
Up to four photographs are allowed for each category with no more
than four entries per entrant per category allowed. Entries received
without the entry fee will not be judged.
Prints must
be mounted on either foam-core or 4-ply mounting board. Mats are
optional but, if used, must be the same size as the mounting board.
Mounting boards must be 8 x 10 to 16 x 20 inches including mats.
To facilitate hanging the exhibit on the Renaissance Center Gallery’s
carpeted walls, each print mount must have at least four, three-inch
strips of sticky-side Velcro attached to the back, one in each corner.
Each photograph
must be labeled on the back of the mounting board with the following
information: an UP arrow or the word TOP to properly orient it,
photographer’s name, address, telephone number, division,
category entered, title and sale price or NFS. Each photograph must
be titled. “Untitled” is not an appropriate title. A
Salon Entry Form should be used to provide this information. Please
do not write the photograper's name or image title on the front
surface. Frames, glass, Plexiglas or shrink-wrap covers, metal hangers
or clips attached will disqualify the entry. Inadequately constructed
mats and/or mounting boards will also disqualify the entry.
The Salon host
reserves the right to decline any entry whose subject matter may
not be suitable for exhibition.
Identical photographs
of the same subject cannot be entered in both categories.
