Come Under My Umbrella
“On
a Valentine’s weekend with 23 inches of snow on the
ground, I asked the couple to poise for me at our Virginia
Bed & Breakfast. With the red umbrella I gave them,
it worked perfectly.”

jewel in the Tennessee System.”

Night Light
“While
on a school trip to London, a group of friends and I got
lost. While they tried to find the way back, I looked around
and took pictures.”

Bygone Days
“My wife has a certain timeless beauty
that seems to belong to another era where the word ‘ladies
and gentleman’ actually meant something. This photograph
captures the feeling of that time and place.”

The Potter’s Dyes
“The image was captured in China near the Great Wall.
The artists were making cloisonné’ vessels, a
technique dating back to the Ming Dynasty. I was captivated
by the intense colors of the paste used to create these beautiful
works of art.”

Hotel Ponce de Leon
“Built in 1888 by railroad pioneer Henry Flagler,
it serves as the centerpiece at Flagler College in St. Augustine,
Florida. With a mixture of carved wood, murals and stained
glass, it is an inspiration and challenge to any photographer.”

Tangerine Sky
“It
was taken during a beautiful sunset at Anne Maria Island,
Florida. The color and shape of the cloud is so unique,
I’ve loved the photo since the second I took it.”

Love Me, Love Me Not
“This
is one of a hand series for a studio class which was supposed
to give the feeling of young love. I like it because of
the contrast with the roughness in his hands and the soft
touch of the flower.”

Got Teeth
“I
had just picked up HolliJay from school and she was so excited
to show me that she had pulled her tooth that day. We emailed
the photo to family and friends and I was as happy about
the photograph as she was about losing her tooth.”

Long and Winding Road
“I
love to capture fleeting moments of childhood innocence
and wonder. My Children, hand in hand, climbing the steep
trail to my parent’s cabin was precious to me.”

innocence captured through my daughter enjoying the simple
things in life.”

It’s Almost Time
“We
got Mack from the animal shelter 13 years ago. He’s
waiting at the back door since it’s almost time for
dad to come home.”

White Rose
“This
is one of the lovely roses my husband gave me for my birthday.
I used a black pillow as a background and just set a light
to the side.”

Pyramid Lake
“We
were at the lake, in Jasper National Park, Alberta, just
after dawn when the clouds started breaking up and the sun
shone through lighting up the hillside. We were in the right
place at the right time!”

Folded Sandstone, Coyote Buttes

years ago my brother and I wandered into this remote area
of Arizona where the sandstone walls had been folded from
a horizontal to a vertical orientation creating beautiful
striations and vibrant color.

Drifting Sea Nettles
“The
little girl was watching the sea nettles at the Atlanta Aquarium
with her hand seemingly reaching out to touch them.
The ambient light was low so the only option was a silhouette
-- another simple and unplanned shot.”

Staircase – Shaker Village
“Through
the years I had seen many photographs of this famous staircase,
often wishing I could see the real thing. When our photo
club had the opportunity to visit Shaker Village last fall,
I finally had the chance to make my own photograph.”

Kiss Me Quick
“We
spotted these grizzlies on a back road near Glacier National
Park. As I snapped through the car window, we didn’t
know whether they were in combat or cavorting but when they
realized we were watching, they ran off.”

and I really liked the U-shape of the lazy river. When I saw
the possibility of an interesting image, I already had the

Lady’s Slipper
“While the normal color shot is a
real ‘portrait’ of the flower, I saw something
more in the picture. The only alteration is close cropping,
conversion to monochrome with the contrast kicked up. Contrary
to speculation, I intended for it to represent nothing more
than a flower in monochrome.”

The tricky part was catching him with his tail feathers spread and
eliminating
the trashy background.”

southern Alberta from a long way off. I captured her through

Driftwood Beach
“I
was patiently waiting for the sun to go down on Jekyll Island,
Georgia but the gnats were patiently waiting for me! I didn’t
get to see the sunset, but I did manage to take this shot
before fleeing to the car.”
