Early Morning Jewels
"On
an early, foggy morning, in Cades Cove, this fence caught
my attention. I was fortunate to be there at the right time.
The lighting was marginal but there was just enough to reflect
on each drop of water."

Awaken
“It
was taken in Miami on the morning we embarked on a cruise.
As the sun was rising, I couldn’t help taking a few
pictures of the beautiful red-orange sky.”

Evening Glory
“During
an unusual winter trip to Destin, Florida, I realized winter sunsets
can often be
the most dazzling. The Gulf was calm so I had to wait for a wave
to include in my
photograph.”

two hours to get a chance to photograph him.”

The Old Mill
“I took this picture of the old mill on a recent trip
to Cass, WV, a former logging town. I thought the colors
were vibrant and beautiful after a shower of rain.”

Always Dancin’
“The
subject is my daughter, a freshman in the UT Dance Company.
She has danced since she was three, and I wanted to get
a few more pictures of her dancing at the recital of student
choreographed dances before she has to stop.”

“I Will Make You Fishers of Men”
“So
many of God’s natural beauties are often overlooked
until you see it all in one place -- in a simple photograph
of your son. Thank you Lord.”

Snow in the Valley
“Located
in Yellowstone National Park, it is a destination each visit
where I just listen to
the sounds in the silence. Amazing … simply amazing.”

White Trillium
“I
spotted this white trillium at Laurel Run Park with the
morning dew still on the leaves as the sun was coming over
the hill. The timing was perfect since a few minutes
later the dew had dried.”

UnJerry
“The
reflection at Sugar Hollow Park combined with elements in
the marsh resembled
the layering of images with multiple enlargers to produce
a single, surreal image as
made by Jerry Uelsmann, but was a single exposure from a
single enlarger. Hence,
the title -- “UnJerry.”

A Stitch in Time
“This photograph was taken at the Virginia Highlands
Festival's Colonial Trade Fair at Craig’s Meadow. The
lady gave permission to take her picture and after I did,
I turned to leave, and snapped this close-up of her hands.
It was a gift shot.”

Dawn of Affection
“We
were visiting my parents in South Florida and heard about
the Wakodahatchee Wetlands where some Great Blue Herons
were nesting. June and I got up early and were rewarded
with this silhouette of a nesting pair with the orange Florida
sunrise in the background.”

Maple in Spring
“While
I was walking on a trail along the Holston River and looking
up, I saw this backlit and glowing red maple leaf. This
seemed kind of odd to me, since it was spring time, not
fall.”

"Aspens have long been my favorite
tree because they are attractive in all seasons and because
of the ‘quaking’ leaves which give the tree
its scientific name populus tremuloides."

Roman Wall
“I
was intrigued by the textures of this wall in Rome, Italy and as
I was shooting it,
people kept walking in front of me. But for some reason this particular
shot just stuck
with me for it’s avant-garde composition.”

I belonged to in Charlottesville. It was taken near the football

Black Hole
“I was photographing the buildings in Kingsport that
were to be torn down for the new
college campus. The sun just happened to be bouncing off
this broken window and
caught my eye – just one of those weird happenings.”
